Greetz, Mordechai (Marcel)


Son of Bella and Yehuda, was born in March 1924 in Lodz, Poland. He was active in the French Resistance movement (“Maki”) and in 1944 managed to cross the Spanish border. In the autumn of that year, his longtime dream was fulfilled, and he immigrated to Israel. At the beginning of 1948 he joined the Palmach and went down to the Negev, first at Kibbutz Gevim and later in the besieged Moshav Nevatim. On the 25th of Iyar 5709 (June 3, 1948) when the armored vehicle he was traveling in from Beit Eshel to Nevatim, was captured in an ambush. On August 31, 1949, Mordechai was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
