Greenwald, Doron


Doron, son of Shoshana and Yehezkel, was born on January 30, 1950 in Kiryat Bialik. He attended elementary school there, and then continued his studies at the Kiryat Haim high school. Doron was a diligent student, and loved his teachers and friends. He was an amateur pilot and had many model models in his room. He read a lot in this area, saying he was going to be perfecting and optimizing aircraft. He was a good friend, devoted and faithful to his friends, who knew that he could be trusted at any time. In every matter, they turned to him in times of distress, and he never turned their backs on them, he had an excellent sense of humor, and he knew how to be honest and to compromise between rivals. Doron was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1968. He requested to serve in the IAF, but was posted to the IDF. The Armored Corps. After completing his basic training, he completed a course in the Patton tank course and a course for tank commanders. He was a soldier and a responsible and dedicated commander and served as an example to his friends in his good temper and in his tolerance. His subordinates testify that “all his interest was in his staff, he was able to stand firm on the rights of his soldiers and stood out in excellent leadership skills.” After graduating from regular service, he began studying at the Technion, in the Faculty of Aeronautics. He paid his own studies during summer vacations, so as not to burden the family agriculture. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was drafted and sent with his unit to the front in Sinai. In the battle that took place on the 19th of Tishrei 5734 (19.10.1973), Doron was hit and killed in the central sector, southeast of Ismailia and northeast of the Great Bitter Lake near the Chinese Farm. His battalion was forced to break into the bridges that were established to help the IDF advance towards the canal, Doron’s tank was hit by a direct hit and began to burn, and he was unable to escape. Description of the act: “During the battles, First Sergeant Doron Greenwald served as a tank commander. With the power of his personality, his leadership ability, his coolness in the difficult situations, he managed the battle with efficiency and resourcefulness, and even took care of the safety of his men. First Sergeant Doron Greenwald was a model for his subordinates, until he fell on October 19, 1973. ” At first he was considered missing. His body was later identified and he was brought to eternal rest in the Haifa cemetery. He was survived by a father, a mother and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. In the newspaper “Israel’s Soldiers”, a list was published on it entitled “Anti-Infantry Cannon,” which describes his heroism in battle.
