Gracia Harush


Gracia, daughter of Chaya and Eliahu Harush, was born on May 18, 1932 in the Old City of Jerusalem. Her parents’ home was on Karaite Street. For six months she served as a liaison officer in the Gadna and was attached as a soldier to the defenders in the Old City of Jerusalem. She moved to the Porat Yosef position and fell there on 7 Iyar, 16 May 1948. She was about to throw a grenade at the attackers, was hit by a bullet and the grenade exploded in her hand. Gracia was buried in the Old City of Jerusalem. Her name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
