Grabowski, Menachem

Son of Reizel and Alter. He was born in 1868 in Kremenzog, Russia, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1882. His parents were among the founders of Rosh Pina, and as a young man Menachem Schumer was distinguished by heroism and resourcefulness, and was described by one of his contemporaries as “tall and broad-shouldered , Blond mustache. The ideal pushed him to migrate to the Land of the Patriarchs and to honor Ofra in the act, to build his home and to establish a family there, with his own desire – land work and rooting for it. “He achieved these goals and established a large family of ten children. A corner on the side of Mount Canaan. The house was slightly removed from the other houses in the village and surrounded by many fruit trees. All the children were brought up to a life of simplicity and peasantry, as well as a security consciousness. “On rainy and dark nights,” he told the family, “Garbowski would put his sons on trial, take them out of the house and order them, one by one, to surround the large courtyard two and three times, and the house was lonely among the mountain rocks and jackals howled at its windows.” Menahem was known for his courage and would first go out to guard the two-branched “jift” rifle and later the Greek rifle “Yunani”. When he began working in Hebrew and in Hebrew guarding the Migdal farm near Tiberias, he was called to the experienced guard from Rosh Pina, where he organized the guard duty there and carried it tirelessly. He also helped to purchase land for Jewish settlement in the area. The Arabs of the area called him Abu Musa and Al Muskobi Aljada (the brave Russian) and admired him for his courage and for his deep understanding of good neighborly relations. Migdal Farm was a place where the fever had spread. Menahem fell ill but neglected his health until he contracted black-urinary fever and died of his illness in 1917. He was laid to rest in Rosh Pina, leaving a wife, seven sons and three sons, one of whom was killed in 1938 in an encounter with an Arab gang.
