Gottstein, Yehuda

Gottstein, Yehuda

Son of Dovid. He was born on January 11, 1914 in Guta, Germany. Despite his origins in an assimilated environment, he joined the Zionist youth movements Brit HaOlim and Habonim. At the age of 18, after graduating from high school, he went to agricultural training. For five months he prepared himself for social and work life and on March 18, 1933 immigrated to Israel and joined Kibbutz Givat Brenner. Despite his young age and short training, he took an important position in every mission sent to him. In 1934, he helped to save Jewish labor in the village of Kfar Saba. He was sent to Beer-Tuvia and during the first riots of 1936 he served as a guard on the roof, and when he expanded the potash factory in Sodom he volunteered to work there and remained there for three years, accepting every position he was offered. He was a member of the cultural committee and a member of the board of directors of the kibbutz, where he worked for the first few months. On April 20, 1939, when the truck came out to secure the way of the Hulda group, he ran over a mine and Yehudah was killed on the spot. He was 25 when he died.
