Gottesman, Dov (Bernhard)


The youngest son of Perl and Yosef, was born on 20.11.1920 in the city of Radautz, Romania, where he completed an elementary school and four high school grades, and after completing his studies, He was preparing to immigrate to Israel in 1939, but when the Russian army entered Czernowitz he moved with thousands of Jewish youth to the Russian occupation zone and worked in a government printing press, and when the Nazis began their attack on the Soviet Union, And was injured several times, fell ill with typhoid fever and smallpox, and miraculously escaped death, while at the same time working for the Russian NKVD, When the war ended, he returned to his home and found his parents alive, and at last he set out on the ship “Knesset Yisrael” to the shores of the country. 15.11.1947, joined Kibbutz Reshefim, where he left the kibbutz so that he could help her with her first steps: In April 1948, Dov joined the Golani Brigade and participated in the battles of the Jordan Valley. The Syrians invaded the Jordan Valley on May 16, 1948, took control of several of the area’s outposts, but were stopped by our forces in Zemach. On May 18 the Syrians launched an attack on a plant with the help of artillery and tanks. Our forces did not withstand the intensity of the Syrian attack. At first, the town of Tzemach fell, and finally the police station, and the defenders retreated under Syrian fire towards Degania. Dov fell in Tzemach on 8 May 1948, five days after his parents arrived in Israel and was brought to rest in a grave in the military cemetery in Degania Aleph.
