Gornitzky, Asher


Son of Reizel and Yosef, was born on the 13th of Nissan, April 11, 1922, in the town Zagierz near Lodz, Poland. When he heard about the War of Independence of the Jews in Palestine, he volunteered for Gahal and he immigrated to Israel (his father later immigrated to Israel). On August 26, 1948 he arrived on a volunteer ship and immediately begin service in the Israel Defense Forces. Two months later, on the 25th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 28, 1948), he disappeared from his service role in Ein Shemer. At first he was considered missing. On the 14th of Av 5709 (August 9, 1949), his body was found in an Arab dumping ground, he was brought to rest In the Military Cemetery in Afula.
