Goren, Shmuel (Muki)


Son of Leah and Isaac. He was born on September 4, 1968 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Jerusalem Elementary School in Bat Yam and continued at Ramot High School in the real track. Prior to his induction into the IDF, Muki was invited to air-force tests, and successfully completed the tests and was scheduled to take a pilot’s course. He successfully passed the formation and began flying. Prior to joining the IDF, Muki was a member of the Nahal Ravid nucleus. Under the influence of his friends he gave up his continued participation in the course and joined the combat track with the members of his nucleus. Muki returned to his unit, was assigned to the command staff, and shortly afterwards went on to a course for infantry officers. On the 15th of Tevet 5749 (December 15, 1988), Muki was killed in a training accident in the officers’ school during a combat exercise in a built-up area. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents and two sisters – Tovit and Moran. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Muki, who knew the difficulty and responsibility in the position of platoon commander, gave up a comfortable life in the IAF. He chose the infantry and understood that the officer corps was a supreme mission. ” His family commemorated planting trees in the grove of the Jewish National Fund. Gilad in his memory was established in the memorial corner of Kibbutz Ravid by his comrades in the Nahal Brigade.
