Goren, Rami-Avraham


Rami, son of Miriam and Jacob, was born on the 20th of Sivan 5708 (June 20, 1948). In Tel Aviv, Rami was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in August 1966. After about a year he volunteered to serve in the Armored Corps unit and was sent to an officer’s course, and completed a course for reconnaissance officers and commanders. He served as commander of a medium-sized mortar division, commander of a reconnaissance unit, commander of a jeep division and deputy company commander, and his commander wrote: “He was an efficient, loyal, thorough, responsible, disciplined and beloved commander. Everything. “After five years of service in the IDF he wanted to study medicine in Israel, but when he was not accepted he went to Bologna and there he began to study medicine. During the holidays he used to come to Israel and during his vacations he worked here in hospitals. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Rami was in Bologna. He made every effort to get to Israel soon and take part in the battles. Indeed, he managed to arrive on the third day of the war and joined forces that fought in the battles of containment and break-ins against the Egyptians in the Sinai. On the 24th of Tishrei 5734 (October 24, 1973), a few hours before the cease-fire, Rami volunteered to assist in the rescue of the wounded and joined a medical team that was taken by helicopter from a military hospital to the battle zone. The helicopter was hit by a missile and crashed and all its passengers were killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents and twin sister. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his friend wrote: “Before he fell I saw Rami’s extraordinary spirit of volunteerism, his unflagging desire to improve the condition of the wounded. It is a wounded man who runs to the wounded to see if he can help and benefit. ” Rami’s unit commander in the War of Attrition wrote to his parents
