Gordon, Azi
Son of Yonah and Moshe-Gabriel. Azi was born in Pardes Hannah on August 31, 1951. Brother Loreda. His mother is a daughter of Pardes Hannah, and his father was born in Petach Tikva. Azi studied at Neve Merhav kindergartens and spent eight years of elementary school at Merhavim. The teacher of the class throughout the entire period was educator Ruth Fein. Azi was active in the children’s society, in drama and more. The first two years of high school Azi studied in the agricultural school in Pardes Hannah, but the Negev called him and he went to study in one of the first classes at the Sde Boker College. The Negev and the Midrasha area were especially loved by him, and during vacations he remained in charge of the nature reserve at Nahal Zin. During his studies at the Sde Boker Midreshet he was active as a member of the student council, engaged in sculpture, singing in choir, writing songs and traveling extensively. After completing his studies at the Sde Boker Midrasha, he joined the IDF and volunteered to serve in the Negev in Sayeret Shaked, where he was wounded in the course of his tour of the Gaza Strip, where he underwent an officer’s course and served in the Artillery Corps in 1973. In 1973 Azi married Shoshi. During the Yom Kippur War he went down with his battalion to the Sinai, and at the end of the war he continued to serve as head of the emergency storage unit at the Northern Command. In 1975, during his service in the Golan Heights, his eldest daughter Einav was born. About a year and a half later, in 1976, Adi was born. Due to family health problems, the family had to move from Kfar Sava to Jerusalem. Azi was discharged from the army and was recruited as an officer of the Israel Police. He served in various positions in Beit Dagan and in the national headquarters in Jerusalem, and later in Yamit, and later joined together with several other police officers to set up the Lachish space station. On April 20, 1983, Superintendent Azi was killed in a traffic accident in the Lachish region he loved so much. He was thirty-two years old. He was buried in the cemetery in Pardes Hannah. Survived by a wife and two daughters, parents and sister.
