Goldwasser, Moshe (“Gold”, “Moishe”)

Son of Kalman and Bella. He was born on March 12, 1947 in Tel Aviv. He studied at the elementary school in Ness Ziona and at the ORT vocational high school in Rehovot. He was naturally a quiet, lively and cheerful boy, yet he was eager and action-oriented. He was drafted into the Armored Corps in early October 1965 and served in the IDF for about a year and a half, but since he aspired to be a pilot he submitted a request to be transferred to the Israel Air Force. “Moshe successfully completed a pilot course and during his service he carried out 42 sorties in the enemy territory and managed to shoot down an enemy MiG-21 fighter plane, and he did everything he could with peace of mind and willingness to do anything. His plane was shot down by the Egyptian enemy and appears to have been taken prisoner. The next day, on August 4, 1970, Lieutenant Moshe Bashbi died, and the authorities immediately contacted the International Red Cross to obtain information about Moshe’s condition and were told that he and his friend were taken prisoner and both were wounded But the next day a message was received from Egypt that Moshe had died of “cardiac arrest.” This information contradicted its predecessor and despite the Israeli authorities’ demand that Moshe’s body be returned, the return was delayed because the Egyptians sought to conceal the signs of torture. In September, the body was returned to Israel, and Moshe was brought to rest in the cemetery in Nes Tziona. He received a letter of condolence from his commander, saying: “His path in the air force, even if cut short in the middle, was full of successes and achievements . His accomplishments as a man and as a soldier and a warrior have always been noted by his commanders and appreciated by his colleagues. I recently appreciated his high qualities, which were expressed in humility, humility, ability to execute, The complex system, which he needed to operate, is indeed entitled to be proud of your son. “
