Goldstein, Ze’ev (Willi)
Son of Rachel and Haim-Zvi, was born on the 19th of Kislav, December 2, 1928 in the city of Debrecen, Hungary, to an ultra-Orthodox family. At the end of the eighth grade Ze’ev went to study at the Sopheron Yeshiva. Upon the Nazi invasion of Hungary, he was deported with his family to forced labor in a labor camp. In 1945, after his liberation. Ze’ev immigrated with his eldest sister to Israel on the “Wedwood” and immediately joined the ranks of the Notrim. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, Ze’ev joined the Givati Brigade. Ze’ev participated in escorting convoys to Jerusalem and Gush Etzion, and in the countryside they attacked murderers and gangs south of Rehovot. He faced many dangers, and his heart foretold his end. In the battle near Negba on the 3rd of Tamuz, July 10, 1948, in the defense of the Ibdis outpost, Ze’ev was wounded by a shell and died of his wounds. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Beer Tuvia.
