Goldstein, Yechezkel (Hezi)

Son of Leah and Jacob, was born on July 31, 1928 in Tel Aviv. He was the only child born after three daughters. The event of his birth filled his parents with pride and joy, and his childhood was surrounded by love and devoted care. Yehezkel grew up into a sturdy, handsome young man with a healthy mind and a healthy body, who accepted everything simply and did not get into trouble. Upon completion of the Nes Tziona elementary school, he did not grapple with his request and chose to study mechanics in a vocational school. He was immediately accepted to the Max Payne School in Tel Aviv and completed his studies successfully. But when they started working in the garage, life was not as simple to him. He saw around him exploitation and lack of development ability and decided to leave this job and ask for ways in which the hand of exploitation would not be taken. Was a sports fan, a member of the National Hockey Team, loved to sail in the sea and even installed a canoe with his own hands. From a young age, he was a member of the Hagana, underwent a course for Hagam instructors and a battalion commander’s course, and now devoted himself to defensive activity and instructed for a long time. After the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was drafted into a Palmach motorized detachment and sent to the Negev, where he served until the day of his death, first as a member of the Palmach, And then as a platoon commander. Yehezkel participated in many ambushes of Egyptian convoys, raids to Arab villages, often beyond the enemy lines, various conquests, etc. He left his family with a lot of activity, in order to prevent too much worry from his mother, but in his diary he left a vivid and practical description of the battles and meetings with the enemy and the days of the war. Yehezkel was a good soldier and a courageous commander who did not shy away from the most difficult situations and did everything he had to do. On the 19th of Tammuz 5708 (19.7.1948) he went with his platoon for a tour and boarded an ambush of enemy armored vehicles near Mishmar HaNegev, near the Gaza-Beer-Sheva road. Under a shower of bullets he set up the machine gun, and although he knew the gravity of the situation, he acted swiftly and coolly, and his manner was exemplary to others. Yehezkel was killed by a bullet in his forehead and was buried in the Negev Guard. On the 23rd of Mar Cheshvan 5706 (15.11.1949) he was put to rest at the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
