Goldstein, Yaacov

Yaakov, son of Sarah and Shlomo Goldstein, was born on May 20, 1928, in Bichawa, Poland. He immigrated to Israel in 1935. After graduating from school, he began working as a locksmith and became an active member of the Irgun. On April 29, 1948, after five days of fierce fighting on the Jaffa front, Yaakov was given a short vacation. He hesitated for a few minutes, until he made up his mind. He remained in the position and would not let go of his weapon. Yaacov continued to fight and a few hours later he was seriously wounded by shrapnel. He lay unconscious in the hospital, and on the 22nd of Nissan 5708 (1.5.1948), he died. Yaakov was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
