Son of Rachel and Yosef Dov. He was a quiet boy and a diligent student and at a young age he joined a youth movement, studied Hebrew and soon became prominent among its activists. In April 1944, after a strenuous training period, he flew from Cairo to Italy and on the 13th of the same month he fell with Yoel Palgi, in Yugoslavia, and fought among the partisans. At that time he sought contact with Jews at the risk of his life and offered help to those in need. In June 1944 he moved to Hungary. After Palgi’s arrest, Peretz escaped and hid in a camp of Jews who were to be sent to Spain as a rescue effort. He discovered that this camp also had parents who were about to leave Hungary on their way to Eretz Israel. After much deliberation and fear, he became acquainted with them and then parted from them with a heavy Lev. According to the plan, he had to leave Hungary together with the Jews of the camp, but out of fear for the fate of his paratroopers who were imprisoned, he chose to remain in order to try to release them in some way, including organizing an attack on the prison. But all the plans failed. In July, Peretz was arrested and interrogated by the Hungarian and German authorities. With the approach of the Red Army, he was exiled to Germany and on December 18 he was last seen in Oranienburg.
