Goldring, Asher


Son of Sarah and David. Born in 1910 in Poland to a family of devout Hasidim, far from Zionism and pioneering, he left the house at the age of seventeen, went to pioneering training, and his parents made peace with him only before immigrating to Eretz Israel. – Hechalutz’s training in 1932 and the two joined Kibbutz Ha-Kovesh, later Ramat Hakovesh, in 1937. They moved to the colony of Ra’anana, where they built their home, and became involved in the development of auxiliary farms in the workers’ neighborhoods and agricultural production. Second, in 1941 he joined the British Army and was attached to Company 14 of the infantry unit (“Baps”), Basic were Israeli national Battalion “and later the Jewish Brigade (Hahayil). In his unit he devoted himself, in addition to the training and guard duty assigned to him, to social and cultural activities among his brothers in arms. The NAFI, which was under its management in the unit, served as a kind of committee for soldiers and a center for ideological agitation. On the night of 17.3.1945, when the Brigade was at the forefront of the war on Italian soil, Asher went on a combat patrol in the Senio Valley. The unit was attacked from the air, the commander of the unit was injured and he was summoned to his aid while the unit’s soldiers retreated. As the fire stopped, the soldiers returned to search for the two, but the traces of Asher disappeared and were not known to this day. He left a wife, a daughter and a son. His kibbutz and the Raanana Workers’ Council published a pamphlet in his memory in which he spoke about his character and work. His name was also commemorated in the book “The Jewish Brigade”; A neighborhood for veterans who was established after the war is named after him – “Asher neighborhood”. An investigation conducted in 2017 found that his place of commemoration at CASSINO MEMORIAL, Cassino, Italy.
