Goldman, Chaim

Son of Shoshana and Moshe. He was born on April 19, 1928 in Poland and immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel when he was seven years old. The family settled in Haifa and Haim graduated from the Netzach Israel elementary school. Haimke, as everyone called him, was a gifted boy and an outstanding student, who had accomplished well in his studies and had even been promoted to a high class before long. During his free time, he read and expanded his education and even acquired a subscription to concerts of the Philharmonic Orchestra, which was then very rare for a boy of his age. He played soccer with his friends and practiced for many hours in Maccabi Haifa. He was always a friendly and cheerful boy, full of warmth and love for his acquaintances. After completing his studies, he joined the Palmach, where he served in the Palmach for four years, after which his entire department served in Haifa as a special unit. During the day he worked, and during the evening he studied for matriculation exams at the Even-Pina High School. He graduated cum laude for only one year. At night he took part in various activities carried out by his company, both by bringing immigrants to the shore and by guarding them, and by actions against the British. The night before his murder he took part in an action against the British, who left a cafe on Berwald Street in Haifa. On Saturday night, 14.11.1947, at 9:00 AM, he drove from Hadar Hacarmel to Carmel on a bus, Arabs shot into a bus, and Haim was killed and killed on the spot. On Sunday at the funeral, all the stores in Hadar Hacarmel were closed. Reports of his downfall were published in the Israeli daily Ma’ariv and Yedioth Ahronoth.
