Goldfinger, Shmuel

Shmuel (Shmulik), son of Sarah and Yehezkel, was born on 25 December 1954. Shmuel was drafted into the IDF at the end of January 1973. He volunteered for the Air Force and asked to be a pilot, but was assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing basic training, he was trained in the course for heavy mortars and was awarded a high grade (90). He was an excellent soldier, responsible and devoted to his role, and was an example of his friends in his good temper and obedience. During his brief service in the army, he maintained constant contact with his parents to keep them from worrying. When the Yom Kippur War broke out he was sent with his unit to the front in the Golan Heights, where he took part in the harsh battles against the Syrians. On the 12th of Tishrei 5734 (October 8, 1973), Shmuel fell in battle in the region of Bukata.
