Golbs, Itamar


Son of Hanna and Yehuda, a pioneer in Lithuania, who immigrated to Palestine in the Third Aliya. He was born on June 9, 1930 in Tel Aviv. When they finished elementary school he went to work and to crafts. He worked as a sweatermaker, but when he did not find satisfaction he paid off and worked as a carpenter. Was a devoted and loving son who was Simcha and proud when he could bring all his salary home. Itamar was a handsome young man, strong, loving simplicity and modest. He did not like symbols of authority and uniform, and he used to say, “Well done in person.” He was an excellent athlete. He used to wash at sea and swim far and wide in summer and winter. At the age of 16, Itamar joined the Haganah and filled every role he was assigned there with enthusiasm and devotion. The next day, 29.11.1947, he became a terrorist and was a sabotage officer in one of the Palmach battalions, and he was involved in operations and was seriously injured. “He recovered his food after the victory,” he told his parents, who tried to influence him to stay at home until at least he was ready to take part in the liberation of the road to Jerusalem and its outbreak. “Itamar fell on the road to Jerusalem, around Abu Ghosh-Saris, on the 17th of Tammuz 5707 (July 24, 1948) and was brought to rest – They are buried in a grave in the Kiryat Anavim military cemetery.
