Glogowsky, Yerachmiel (Yerach)

Yerachmiel (Yerach), son of Tova and Emanuel Glogowsky, was born in 1927 in the city of Ella, Germany, and immigrated with his parents to Israel in 1934. He was an active member and later a counselor at the Hashomer Hatzair branch in Haifa and served as a model for his friends and students, serving with great devotion. He participated in operations in Yagur, Biriya and more. In January 1948, he joined a group of members of his movement in Kfar Menachem, headed it and maintained its spiritual image and practical preparedness.
He accompanied convoys to Jerusalem, and he participated in the battles and conquests in Castel, Shuafat, Katamon, Sheikh Jarrah and Jerusalem. On the day the British left Jerusalem and there was the expectation of the declaration of the state, the IDF embarked on Operation “Maccabi “for the breakthrough from Jerusalem to the coastal plain, on 5 Iyar, May 14, 1948. When our forces returned the next day, they did not find Yerachmiel. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, along with all the soldiers that were transferred from enemy territory in the Latrun area.
