Globetrotter Gideon (Gidi)

Son of Shimshon and Sarah. He was born on January 25, 1958, in Jerusalem, where he studied at the Beit Hayeled elementary school, where he continued his high school studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was loved by his teachers and classmates. : “When Gidi expressed his opinion in the class, everyone listened with interest because they knew that he had something to say and what to innovate in his original way of thinking.” He was very active in all sports in the school and won many awards at the school, As part of the effort to promote the reserve of young athletes, Gidi learned to play the guitar and used to sing and accompany himself while he was modest and fun. He studied books and articles in these fields, and he studied the books he read and followed them with a subtle understanding and sensitivity, living in a rich and varied inner world, paying little attention to the little things, and the daily affairs that surrounded him kept him a little dreamy. Many hours to learn their way of life in order to understand them Gidi was educated on the knees of the nostalgia of the generation of 1948. In his library you could find many books about the heroes of the Palmach he admired, and he listened with curiosity to the stories of his comrades who had joined the IDF and decided to volunteer for an elite unit. He was fascinated by the quality of life, as expressed in his special sense of humor, in a small unit in which the relations between the commanders and their subordinates were close and good. Was willing to face the many physical difficulties in knowing that in such a unit they would treat him as a man and a respect, and not a small, insignificant screw. Gidi was drafted into the IDF in August 1976 and volunteered to serve in the Shaked Reconnaissance Unit, where he began his basic training and was Simcha to receive his request for a unit he wanted to serve. , Asked him to be listened to, to understand that he did not seek comfort, that he was willing to accept the burden and discipline, but not to give up things that seemed to him the most precious and important. “On September 28, 1976 Gidi fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and two sisters. In memory of his uncle Gideon Globetter, who died in the 1948 war, his parents established a gym at the Hebrew University High School in Jerusalem, where Gidi studied.
