Son of Susanna and Jacob, was born on the 27th of Tishrei, 5721 (27.9.1920) in the city of Iasi, Romania, where he completed his studies in an elementary school. In 1934 the entire family immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv. Dan completed his studies at the Herzliya high school and later found his livelihood as an electrician and telephone technician. From childhood he was very attached to his parents and tried to do everything he could to their advantage, and among other things he spent most of his salary on the household. He aspired to study and be educated in electrical engineering studies in Tel Aviv, and in addition he read a lot of good literature. Dan devoted his time to sports. From his youth he was a member of the athletics department of “Brit Maccabim Atid” and excelled in a long jump, 100 meters and relay races. Dan was hired as an electrician in various British army camps throughout the country. One day, when he worked in the Rafah refugee camp, he was hit by an electric shock and was hospitalized in Gaza with severe burns to his face and neck. He held a position there and also overcame the injuries due to his strength. Dan worked for a while in the ranks of the Haganah, but moved from there to the Irgun for ideological reasons, joining the ranks of the Irgun without the knowledge of his family, fearing that this would bother his parents. In July 1948, when the Irgun’s Altalena reached the shores of the country, Dan boarded it while anchoring at the shore of Kfar Vitkin and then sailed to Tel Aviv on June 22, 1948, When the ship was shelled and burned by IDF forces, Dan was among those killed on board. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
