Glass, Shmuel-Eliezer
Shmuel-Eliezer, ben Silka and Yehuda, was born on the 7th of Adar 5705 (February 20, 1945) in Moshav Zoraim in the Yavne’el Valley. In August 1964 Shmuel-Eliezer was drafted into the IDF. After completing basic training, and after completing his training course in explosive devices, he was assigned to an armored unit as a sapper. At the beginning of October 1966, Shmuel-Eliezer was discharged from compulsory service in the IDF. In the Yom Kippur War, Shmuel-Eliezer took part in the battles of containment and break-up against the Egyptians on the Sinai front. On the 26th of Tishrei 5734 (October 21, 1973), when his unit crossed the Canal on its way to Mount Ganifah, on the western side of the canal, Shmuel-Eliezer suffered mortal wounds in enemy artillery shelling. He was transported by helicopter to a rear hospital and spent ten days struggling for his life. He died of his wounds on the 5th of Heshvon, Thursday, October 31, 1973. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind a wife and son, parents, brother and two sisters. Shmuel-Eliezer was loved by his friends and accepted by his commanders.
