Givati (Leibowitz), Aryeh

Son of Shifra and Yehuda. He was born in 1911 in the city of Roman, Romania. In 1932 Aryeh immigrated to Palestine. It was a period of struggle for the establishment of Jewish settlements, a lack of pioneering manpower and land for settlement. With the power of his political faith and ideological clout, Aryeh knew how to maintain stamina and to encourage others. In 1935 he was among the first group to immigrate to Heratia, Sha’ar Ha’amakim. His friends remember him, full of joy that infected others. On the 5th of Elul 5639 (21.1939), four members of the kibbutz prepared their instruments for the plowing, a tractor driven by Aryeh who towed a plow and set out to prepare the ground for sowing. They ran over a landmine planted by assassins, and Aryeh was found wounded and unconscious, and he was taken to the hospital, and on the same day he died of his wounds, and he was brought to eternal rest in Sha’ar HaAmakim.
