Gili, Gabriel (‘Gabi’)


Son of Rafael and Roza. He was born on March 1, 1959, in Ramat Gan, as a child of the Gawili family. His childhood was normal. He spent two years in the kindergarten, successfully completing the elementary school and the religious high school in Ramat Gan. Gabi liked to engage in various activities besides his studies. From an early age, he took part in various circles, such as a group for aviation and science-oriented youth, especially in computers he loved very much. He also liked to play sports and enjoyed playing chess. He took part in and won chess championships, held on behalf of the school, and in quizzes on the weekly Torah portion, also on behalf of the school. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva movement and was a member of it until he joined the IDF, and he was a close friend of mine and had many friends from the school, the movement and the circles he took part in. He liked to help anyone in need in any field: to a friend who needed help in his studies, to a friend who asked for a book, to adults, etc. Gabi was a good son and a good brother, loved to sit in the family circle, talk, tell what was happening with him and hear from others. His children loved Gabi because they felt his love for them, and he had many plans, but he did not want to do so. He was appointed to the IDF in July 1977 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. He was sent to basic training and progressed successfully. The commander of the base: “Private Gavriel was a dedicated and loyal soldier, and he fulfilled all his duties with due diligence and recognition, and was loved and accepted by all his friends. His comrades in the unit, although they had not known him for a long time, told how he had come to the aid of others and volunteered first for every job. On the 7th of Cheshvan 5738 (7.11.1977) Gabi fell in the line of duty. He was brought to eternal rest in the Zichron-Meir cemetery in Bnei Brak.
