Giladi (Klein), Gabriel (“Gabi”)


Son Ernest and Ella. He was born on March 17, 1950, in Romania. His family immigrated to Israel in 1961 and settled in Herzliya. He attended the Weizmann elementary school and the municipal high school, both in Herzliya. Gabriel was convinced that the day would come when there would be peace between Israel and the Arabs, and therefore he was seriously interested in the Arabic language. During his high school years he excelled in knowledge of the Arabic language, read newspapers and listened to broadcasts in Arabic. During the Six-Day War – and then a high school student – he used to listen to Arabic broadcasts and translate his words into his parents. He dreamed of cooperation with the Arab peoples after the achievement of just peace between Israel and the Arab countries. Besides studying languages ​​and general studies, he studied music and played the violin. Gabriel was drafted into the IDF in mid-August 1968 and reached the rank of Corporal. (17.6.1971), was killed while carrying out his duties. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
