Gigi, Yaakov Zack (“Kiko”)
Son of Yamin and Simi. He was born on February 21, 1948 in the city of Fez in Morocco. The family immigrated to Israel in 1957 and Yaakov was nine years old. After a year of suffering and poverty in a transit camp near Petah Tikva, the family moved to an immigrant housing project in Netanya and Yaakov attended elementary school there. From the study desk he went to work in the building and in other jobs to help his family during its economic distress. “I would not be a man if I did not go to the Border Police,” he says, and was drafted into the IDF in November 1965 and volunteered for every mission and was loyal to his job. During his year of service, he spent his short vacations in his parents’ home and recently signed a permanent service in the Border Police. Seeing the distress of his parents, his Lev and his salary planned to pass on to them with his devotion and love. On the 9th of Tishrei, 5727 (October 9, 1966), he fell while carrying out his mission in a mine on the Syrian border. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
