Gideon, Molto Asher

Ben Wubensch and Marrow. He was born on 15.1.1976 in Ethiopia. The youngest son of his parents, brother of Obelam and his mother. As a child, Molto was a sheep herder and when he was fifteen he began to study ironwork. Molto was a quiet and humble young man and was very attached to his family and especially to his older parents. In 1992 he immigrated to Israel with his family and began his studies at Ulpan, first in Lod and later in Ashkelon. Molto revealed a strong desire to serve in the Israel Defense Forces and to defend Israel as a combat soldier, and when he was drafted into the army in early July 1995, he was assigned to the engineering division of the Nahal Brigade. Despite the difficult economic situation in his home he chose to be a fighter, showed determination and willingness to sacrifice and invest. He had become a soldier of extraordinary will, and he had always made every effort to exhaust his potential. His commanders say that he was a charming soldier and very beloved to his comrades in the unit. He had a unique sense of humor and could say something funny and encouraging even in difficult moments. On the evening of 28 February 1997, the helicopter disaster occurred when two Yasur helicopters collided over Moshav Shear Yashuv. The seventy-three fighters, who made their way to operational activity in Lebanon, were killed, including Molto. He was twenty-one years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Lod. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. After his fall, Molto was promoted to sergeant. “Molto was the light in our family, and since he died, the day has turned into darkness,” said his brother, Ovalem. “Molto was always with me, now I have no one to consult with.
