He wanted to join the Palmach, but his twin brother was already drafted and therefore Gideon had to stay with his parents until the release of his brother, since his father needed the help of one of his sons in the workshop. After the outbreak of the War of Independence, his commanders wanted to release him from combat service in order to continue his role as a guide in the Gadna, but Gideon refused to remain in the rear. “I also have to participate in the actual war and taste the taste of the front. “When he left for the front, before he reached the age of enlistment, he chose a commando unit and joined the regiment in the 8th Brigade. He participated in battles in the Galilee and the Jordan Valley and during the truce served as a guide in the Tel Litvinsky training camp. In the battles he was found to be a fierce warrior, working coldly and precisely. He recently fought in the “Danny” operation in the battles of Tira, Kula, Beit-Nabala, son of Shemen, Lod and Ramle. A few days before his death, he said: “Our lives may be too short, but they have a change.” He was wounded on July 11, 1948, in the battle for Lod. Gideon volunteered for this operation, although he was given a release because he was wounded in the previous battle. After being hit in the neck, he was transferred to son of Shemen, where he died on Thursday, July 12, 1948. Gideon was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Netanya.
