Gershom, Shmuel (Shmulik)

He was born on 9 March 1960 in Kfar Sava to Holocaust survivor parents, and in his first year he moved to Ramat Gan where he grew up and studied at the “Giva’a” elementary school and continued his high school studies at the ORT school, He was active in the Scout movement and his main hobby was sports, he played soccer in Maccabi Ramat Hen from 1974 to 1978. He used to watch sports programs, he was socially conscious and he helped many people, he was very sensitive to others and always willing to contribute even above his ability He was loved by all and had many joys, and he loved to listen to heavy-rock music and the songs of the Land of Israel. August 1978 and was assigned to serve in the artillery. He completed his entire service on the Lebanese border and was discharged from the army in August 1981. At the end of his service, he worked as a driver at Egged and married Eti, who settled in Rishon Letzion and had a son and a daughter – Liron and Shiran. He was called to reserve duty in Hebron, where he fell in the midst of terrorist attacks on the IDF position opposite the Tomb of the Patriarchs on the day (25.10.1992), who was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion, where Raya, son, daughter, mother Nurse. The letter of condolence to the bereaved family wrote to his commander at battalion and midfielder functioning human being open, friendly, talkative and warm family man, fervently committed redundant tasks, while taking initiative and thinking. Was always among the first to help. His memory was commemorated by reading a room in his name in Kiryat Arba in Hebron, as well as planting a tree in the Galilee by the Bnei Yisrael congregation in New Jersey. Articles about his downfall appeared in the press of the period. In 1995 a synagogue was erected in the area in memory of Heichal Shmuel, in which a Torah scroll was put in his name.
