Gernick, Joshua


Yehoshua, son of Rachel and Isaac, was born on the 12th of Sivan 5712 (June 15, 1952) in Haifa and studied at the Gordon Elementary School in Holon and the ORT school in Ramat Gan. Joshua was a diligent and disciplined student and excelled in various sports. He was a soccer player in the Hapoel Holon youth team, and at the school he was awarded certificates of excellence in various competitions. He also devoted much of his time to public work among the school’s students. At ORT he excelled in his studies and won a scholarship from the Ramat Gan Municipality. Yehoshua was drafted into the IDF in the middle of August 1971. He was assigned to a reconnaissance course, a course for intelligence inspectors and a course for reconnaissance units and reconnaissance units and intelligence units, and was a disciplined soldier with excellent fighting skills. As an intelligence officer who excelled in his precise, dedicated and loyal work to the satisfaction of his commanders. Joshua was a dedicated and faithful son of his family. During his vacations, he spent time with the family and always wrote to them to remove their concern while serving in the army. During the Yom Kippur War, he fought with his comrades in the reconnaissance unit on the Suez Canal and participated in the braking battles against the Egyptians and battles to cross the Suez Canal. On the 24th of Tishrei 5734 (October 24, 1973), his half-track was hit in the battle in the city of Suez, and at first Yehoshua was considered missing, but after his body was found and found, he was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan wrote that Joshua was an excellent soldier and a loyal friend, loved by everyone he knew.
