Genzel, בקרב זה נפל, (Yitzhak)


Son of Sarah and Moshe, was born in 1929 in the city of Balsdiharmet, Hungary. Upon the German invasion he was transferred to a concentration camp and sent to forced labor. Yosef escaped from the concentration camp and hid in the outskirts of Budapest. After the liberation, Yosef surreptitiously crossed the borders and boarded the ship “Henrietta Szold”, but was arrested and sent to Cyprus and arrived in Israel with the first of the first refugees in 1946. He joined the youth movement at Kibbutz Dan and soon became a member of the Hagana. On the day of the United Nations General Assembly resolution on the partition of the land, Yosef immediately enlisted in active duty in Jerusalem, took part in its defense and boarded the last convoy to Kfar Etzion. On May 12, 1948, the Legion and local Arabs carried out a heavy attack on the Gush and the next day, Kfar Etzion fell to the enemy, on the 4th of Iyar, May 13. On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) Yosef was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
