Gelman, Meir

Gelman, Meir

Meir Gelman was born in 1924 in the city of Brichany, in Serbia, which was then part of Romania. On May 6, 1948, a force from the brigade raided the village of Arab a-Zabah, near Beit Keshet, took control of it and blew up some of its houses. The organization of the force for withdrawal was delayed, and in the process the Arabs launched a counterattack. Many of the fighters fell in the retreat, including Meir, who fell while helping a wounded friend on the 27th of Nissan 5708 (May 6, 1948). He was brought to rest in the cemetery in Beit Keshet.
