Geller, Shimon


Son of Dov and Frida. He was born in the city of Eldan in Siberia on August 7, 1941. In 1950 the family immigrated to Israel. Shimon graduated from elementary school in Even Yehuda and the regional high school in Emek Hefer. He was a member of the Even Yehuda sports club and worked for the youth organization there. He volunteered as a librarian in a youth library and was a counselor. He was quiet and courteous by nature, pleasant and gentle, and was able to make friends with anyone who came into contact with him when he finished high school. He was enrolled in the Law Faculty at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

After being drafted to the IDF in 1960, he underwent a tank commanders’ course and the armored officer’s course.

In the Six Day War, as part of the reserve, and on the fourth day of the battles, June 8, 1967 he was killed in a battle at Bir Gifgafa airport in Sinai on June 8, 1967.

He was buried in the military cemetery for emergencies in Bari and was later transferred to the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, and his memory was raised in Yedioth Ahronoth Ha’Hahalai.
