Geller, Avraham (Oler)
Avraham, the only son of Tony and Sammy Geller, was born on in 1929 in Iasi, Romania. When he was eight years old, his father was killed in the riots that took place there. His mother worked and supported the two. He told his mother that all his future was in Eretz Yisrael and she let him go. In 1945, at the age of 16, he immigrated to Israel as part of Youth Aliyah and spent two years in Kibbutz Mesilot. He worked in agriculture and specialized in electricity and radio technology. After leaving the kibbutz, he joined the Palmach. His mother immigrated to Israel, but he refused to accept her requests for easier service because he was an only son, claiming that too many were the only sons of their mothers. He sent her reassuring letters, and even informed her of his safety through the Hagana radio station, Kol Ha’Galil. Avraham fell in battle for Malkia on the fifteenth of Iyar 5708 (May 15, 1948). From the day of his downfall until the 16th of Cheshvan 5770 (November 3, 2009), Avraham’s burial place was unknown. Following the investigation of the missing soldiers in the IDF, it was discovered that Avraham was buried together with some of his friends in a mass grave at Kibbutz Maoz Chaim.
