Gelberg, Noam


Son of Menachem and Tzipora. He was born on April 14, 1953, in Hadera. He studied at Metzudot Elementary School in Kiryat Shmona, continued at the Danziger high school on the spot and completed his studies at the agricultural school “Hakfar Hayarok” near Tel Aviv. Noam was a talented and diligent student and was very successful in his studies. He was particularly interested in the real professions and intended to continue his studies. He decided to withdraw his candidacy for the academic reserves and enlist in the IDF. Noam was drafted into the IDF in November 1971. After completing basic training and after completing his wireless course and radio course, he was sent to the Northern District of the country as a noncom. His comrades in the unit testify that he was “a quiet, withdrawn man who showed dedication to his position by carrying out all his duties to the satisfaction of his commanders.” The commander of the unit added: “Noam helped to advance the subject of the liaison he was responsible for in his unit – an armored unit – he was acceptable to his comrades and commanders, and he did everything with good advice or action. , And beyond that, without fault. ” During his military service, Noam maintained close contact with his family and showed great concern for his sick mother. On July 19, 1974, Noam died while serving in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shmona, leaving behind his parents and a sister, who died a few months after his death.
