Geiger, Uri

Son of Naomi and Moshe, was born on February 15, 1953 in Nahariya and grew up in Moshav Liman, where he grew up in the countryside and brought Uri to the flora and fauna, He studied at the “Tze’elim” Elementary School, where he studied at the “Makif A” High School in Be’er Sheva, and was a good student with his quiet leadership and athletic ability. And he loved tennis and basketball, he liked to travel in Israel, and the family trip on Saturdays in the Beer Sheva area was a permanent practice, and the family had a modest way of life, but in every decision Uri was a strong, solid and tall guy, he knew he would not be accepted to an aviation course because of an eclipse. In his view, he began to run every day for many kilometers, in order to be accepted into an elite unit – the Shaked Reconnaissance Unit. He participated in the Yom Kippur War, and when the war was over he was sent to an officer’s course and finished with a gold pin. Afterward Uri studied sociology and criminology in a special program for IDF personnel at Bar-Ilan University, where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree, taught at the officers’ school and was a company commander in Sayeret Shaked. After the patrol was disbanded, Uri was appointed battalion commander in the Paratroopers Brigade, and he prepared himself for the education of young soldiers, and he aspired to be a battalion commander in the same battalion, but the army’s needs led him to serve as a lieutenant. Uri acted for the position of battalion commander. Two weeks before the Peace for Galilee War, he won it. Uri saw the role as an educational challenge and was proud of it. He did all his actions quietly, yet he achieved his goals. He was introverted, spoke little, and yet he could help people in stressful situations by virtue of the personal example of the inner peace that characterized him. On the first day of the war, on June 6, 1982, Uri burst out with the first force in Lebanon, and from that day was declared missing. Only after a month and a day did his fate become known: Uri fell in battle, while he was at the head of a rescue force to help another force caught in a fire trap. He fought courageously with a new type of warfare that the IDF did not know – terrorists disguised inside a civilian population, attacking orchards, water trenches and structures, and Uri was ambushed, fought from the ground, And pointed to the location of the body, and his commander wrote to his family that Uri was a young commander with integrity, credibility, courage, resourcefulness and readiness for everything. Uri was killed on June 15, 1982. He was 29 years old and was brought to eternal rest in Beit- Military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. He is survived by his parents and a brother.
