Gefen, Eliav (‘Elik’)

Gefen, Eliav (‘Elik’)

Son of Binyamin and Tamar. He was born on 11.11.1955 in Kibbutz Kabri in the Western Galilee. In this kibbutz, which was established only six years before his birth, Elik spent all his life and acquired his basic and high school education. Here, too, his unique personality has crystallized, impressing everyone who happened to be with him – both young and old. Elik’s teacher attests to the dualism that came to character in his character: “A boy and a man, an outstanding and responsible student, and a pre-man, busy writing love letters in all the lessons and captivating the teacher’s Lev with interest and attention to everything that is going on in class … Mother and his sister Hava’le – with love, with all the details of attention, with unmatched family responsibility – and entangled in the actions of irresponsible irresponsible members – all involved in society, supporting each member of his class – , A corner that is only his, all a storm – and there is quiet, calm, calm, a leader – and an ordinary boy, laughing and laughing to tears – and conducting serious and penetrating conversations … all the contrast In a very surprising way – Eliav. ” And an old friend – the mother of his girlfriend – admires “the various qualities that satisfy him: the clean and precise aesthetic sense, the sharp intelligence, the wonderful tenderness, the quiet and confident leadership ability and the strong desire to learn and to know and to walk all the way to the end – To taste, not to live in a limited and peaceful framework, to embrace the whole world and not to be deterred by small or large failures. ” Alik served as the center of the youth group in his farm. Participated in every activity – both physical and spiritual. He had a special sense of nature and landscape. As a graduate student at the high school, he chose the subject: ‘Attempts to pollinate flowers and to celebrate fruits and improve them.’ A summary of this work was printed after his death in the field. And the findings are implemented in practice by the growers. He obtained his matriculation certificate in the undergraduate examinations. Elik’s hobbies were trips, in which he took advantage of his knowledge of the country, underwater diving and music – both pop and classical. Before joining the IDF, Elik decided to devote one year to the movement – to train immigrant camps in Be’er Sheva, and was recruited by the IDF in November 1974 and assigned to serve in the commando unit as he requested. In his military service, he demonstrated passivity, leadership ability and willingness to help his friends in the difficult training exercises, despite the damage to his knee. Only nine months passed, and his class, which was responsible for guarding the northern border, was put to a severe test of fire. When the terrorists entered the area, the squad was rushed to Hanita. The terrorists hid in an area with thick vegetation, east of the kibbutz, and only about 100 meters from them were separated from the fence. Alik and his friends lined up to survey the area. The first fire of the terrorists was directed entirely at Alik. The soldiers returned fire and the squad, which numbered three terrorists, was completely destroyed. But Alik was no longer alive – he fell in the same battle on the 13th of Elul 5735 (August 20, 1975). He was brought to eternal rest in the land of Kabri, where he grew up and watched from afar a few minutes before his death. Survived by his parents, brother and sister. Kibbutz Kabri published a memorial book called “Alec” to commemorate his memory.
