Gavsi, Shmuel


Son of Bia and Saul. Born on July 12, 1962 in Moshav Eitan in the Lachish region, he studied at the “Even Shmuel” religious elementary school and continued his studies at the Or Etzion High School in the Shapira Center for the Humanities. In August 1980 and was assigned to serve in the Armored Corps. He completed his regular service with the rank of sergeant in August 1983. He was a good soldier, disciplined and resourceful. After his release, he was assigned to serve in the reserves as a liaison officer in a tank. In August 1988 he married Zehava, raised a family and settled in Kiryat Gat. He made a living by painting and was a family man who loved his home and family. He did not like to stand out and was loved by his acquaintances. Shmuel fell during his duty in reserve service on the 24th of Sivan 5751 (6.6.1991) in a traffic accident on the Tzemach-Beit She’an road and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Gat. Survived by Raya, Bat Sapir, parents, four sisters and five brothers – Haya, Yoni, Osnat, Yair, Benny, Doron, Sigal, Dalia and Gil. The family commemorated his name in a Torah library he established in his memory.
