Gavish, Abraham

Ben Ita Rachel and David Israel Halevy was born in Jerusalem on August 19, 1976, the eldest brother of Assaf, Leah, Tzofia, Avigdor, Yeshurun and Menashe. The family lived for several years in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, then settled in Kedumim, the first settlement in Samaria, and then moved to the settlement of Elon Moreh. Avraham studied at the Nahalat Zvi elementary school in Elon Moreh and continued at the Shomron Yeshiva in Karnei Shomron. He graduated with honors. Throughout his studies, Abraham was always surrounded by many friends and knew how to connect friends with each of them. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva national religious youth movement, first as a trainee and later as a counselor, and coordinator of social activities for youth in the Samaria region. Abraham was very active in physical activity – running, fitness and strength exercises, because he strongly believed in the connection between body and mind. He also loved music and regretted that he was not able to learn music when he was a child. He aspired to engage in public activity for the benefit of others and society. After graduating from high school and after a long struggle with his future, Avraham decided that he had to “fill up” spiritually and religiously before enlisting in the army and went to study at the hesder yeshiva in Ma’alot. Avraham enlisted in the IDF in July 1995, after successfully completing a series of preparations for the Sayeret Matkal commando unit. At the end of the basic training he joined with his teammates Nir and Eitam passed the special route to the unit. He is considered an outstanding soldier, a professional, a good friend of all those around him and has a high leadership ability. His teammates wrote: “At the end of a week of training, we climbed the first light on Mount Kabir, slowly climbing from the direction of Nahal Tirza, and in the morning we reached the summit, to the grave of the sheikh … In your home for breakfast, where we first met your family, your parents David and Rachel and your brothers and sisters, we learned to know where you grew from and where you inherited qualities of leader, commander, and most important friend. A great faith in what you do in the army, in your way of life, in the Land of Israel The we, the staff of the secular, watched her from the side and not always realized. And you, patience and tolerance amazing sense of humor rare quality you would explain, number, share and makes sure that, God forbid, will weigh heavily on us or force us something. ” After successfully completing the arduous course, Abraham went to an officers’ course and returned as an officer, and a new team was sent to his command. Avraham led his team in a qualitative manner, demonstrating great professionalism and concern for his soldiers. Toward the end of his position, he commanded his soldiers to carry out a complex task they had prepared for a long time. After completing mandatory service, Avraham joined the ranks of the career army. During his service, Avraham married his girlfriend Na’ama from childhood to a wife and the couple settled in Kedumim. Abraham was a charming, loving and indulgent husband and there was no end to his happiness when he embraced Na’ama with their eldest daughter Daria. When his team was discharged from compulsory service, Avraham first went out to fill the batteries at a yeshiva in Eli, and later, as part of his service plan, began studying economics and computers at Bar-Ilan University. Here, too, he combined his studies at the university with Torah studies at a yeshiva in Bar-Ilan. After completing his studies, Avraham planned to return to Sayeret Matkal, where he was perfect in every field he dealt with – as a son, a husband, a father, a brother, a commander, a friend and a student. And adherence to them and the perfection in carrying out any task he took upon himselfRio in Elon Moreh. On the evening of the holiday, on March 28, 2002, a terrorist infiltrated the settlement, broke into the family’s home and opened fire in all directions. Avraham was wounded by the shooting. He tried to reach his weapon and protect his family. While he was holding the weapon, the terrorist attacked again and Avraham was killed. His grandfather, Yitzhak, and his parents, Rachel and David were also killed in the attack. Abraham was twenty-six when he died. He was brought to eternal rest in the Elon Moreh cemetery, next to his parents and grandfather. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of Major. He left behind a wife, a daughter, four brothers and two sisters. In his eulogy, the unit commander said, “As a soldier in the Nir team, you stood out as a good fighter with many commanding qualities and infinite willpower, and at the end of the course you were chosen to go to an officers’ course and command a team of your own. To his soldiers. ” In the personal inscription chosen by the family to engrave on the gravestone, it was written: “… At Mount Merom Israel we planted and carried a branch and made fruit, and it became Erez Adir.” The family established a website in memory of Avraham. gavish
