Gattler, Yitzhak (Itzik)

Yitzhak, son of Yehudit and Yaakov Gattler, was born on the eve of Passover, April 8, 1925, in Jerusalem. After graduating from elementary school, he worked as an apprentice at a car repair shop. Yitzhak was a member of the Scouts movement, the Yodfat tribe, and took an active part in his activities. With his friends he went to two years of agricultural training in Ramat David and adapted himself to all branches of labor in the agriculture. When he returned to Jerusalem he worked as a mechanic and driver. In December 1947 he volunteered for service and was sent to the Yemin Moshe fortifications. He demanded that he be included in combat activities and sent to Mekor Chaim. In one of the battles he was seriously wounded in the stomach and only after negotiations with the British could he be brought the next day to the hospital. The next day, on the 24th of Adar, 5708 (4.4.1948), he died of his wounds and was buried in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. On the 16th of Cheshvan, 5712, he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
