Garove, Haim
Son of Rivka and Menachem, was born on August 29, 1931 in the city of Poltosk, Poland. His sister and two of his brothers were murdered by the Nazis who occupied Poland during World War II. In 1941 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and three brothers (one of whom died in Israel) who remained in exile. The family settled in Kfar Ata. Where he studied at an elementary school and Talmud Torah, and later at Yeshivat “Sfat Emet” in Jerusalem. Without the knowledge of his parents and the directors of the yeshiva, he volunteered with his friends from Agudat Israel to the Jerusalem Brigade. Haim fell in defense of the exodus on the 27th of Adar 5748 (7.4.1948). His friends tell of him: When he was on his deathbed, fluttering between life and death, he asked to wear a kippa on his head, so that he would not lie bareheaded. Chaim was brought to eternal rest in the Sanhedria cemetery in Jerusalem.
