Garbali, Yosef (Jojo)


Son of Simcha and Abraham, was born on January 16, 1926 in Tel Aviv, but grew up in Tiberias, and when he was a baby his parents separated and he grew up until the age of three with his mother and then with his father in Tiberias. He was a member of the “Hanoar Haoved” youth movement, a gentle and quiet youth, and his friends noted that he had never quarreled with anyone in Tel Aviv and began working at the Sadan factory in metal casting. Sadan worked for five years and acquired many friends among both workers and employers, Yosef found a girlfriend and was about to marry her. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he immediately volunteered for the Givati ​​Brigade and participated in the defense of Tel Aviv and the region, and later accompanied convoys to the Negev. On the second day of Adar 2, 5708 (13.3.1948), he fell on the way to Gat and Gala’on, and Yosef was in the ward to block the arrival of enemy reinforcements from Iraq to Manshiyya, which might have hindered the convoy. After his death, his family donated a Sefer Torah to a synagogue in Tiberias on November 15, 1949, and was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
