Gan, Shmuel

Son of Sonya and Chaim, was born in 1923 in Lithuania and in 1924 immigrated to Israel with his parents who settled in Moshav Balfouriya. He studied at the village school, at the village school at Kfar-Morah, and after graduating from Kadouri he began studying at the university. His parents, who wanted to give him the most education, sold cows and reduced the work in the agriculture to give him the ability to learn. From his childhood, Molik, as fondly called by his many friends, was fond of reading adventure stories, trips to nature and collecting plants and animals that he saw as a reward for his toil. His childhood friends remember him as imaginative, persuasive and exciting in his quiet speech. Even when he grew up, he was not deterred by trekking in the Judean Hills. Shmuel studied natural sciences and agriculture at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and came to the third year. Even when he acted in the service of the homeland, he despised the dangers, and when he dealt with his comrades during the Hagana’s resistance operations, he led the weapons to concealment and the question was: “What will happen if we catch him?” “He replied with a quiet smile.” The investment is worthwhile. ” When the War of Independence broke out, he regretted not being trained in the Palmach and not in the first line of combat, then he was drafted into the army, trained and went on guard duty and accompanied convoys to Atarot. He was supposed to join the Lamed-Hah, which had come to the aid of Gush Etzion but was not attached to it, but after a few days, on the 18th of Adar 5708 (18 February 1948) A bullet penetrating the armor pierced his Lev and fell. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Balfuria.
