Gamlieli, Chaim


Son of Sarah and Saadia, was born in 1924 in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. He was educated in a “cheder” and a “yeshiva” in the Yemenite style and later worked in shoemaking. In 1943 he left his parents’ house without their knowledge and immigrated to Israel. He urged them to hurry to come to Israel. But when they immigrated to Israel after the establishment of the State in Operation Magic Carpet, they never saw him again. In the spring of 1948, Chaim enlisted in the Carmeli Brigade, participated in various battles in Mishmar Hayarden, conquered Acre, the Western Galilee and the East, and was popular with his comrades and commanders with his simplicity and coolness, and was sent with his company to the defense of Ramot Naftali. He fell with several other friends on 3 Sivan, June 10, 1948. He was buried in Ramot Naftali. On the 27th of Adar 5710 (16.3.1950) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
