Galkin, Reuven


Reuven, son of Deborah and Ze’ev, was born on June 5, 1954 in Moshav Amikam, Reuven was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1973 and volunteered for the Paratroopers Brigade. After successfully completing the basic training and parachute training course, he was assigned as a combat soldier in a parachutist unit. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was sent to Sinai and participated in the battle against the Egyptians. Reuven was one of the best and most outstanding fighters in his unit. Several times he did not take the command to take shelter and fought valiantly, exposed to the enemy. He participated in the terrible battles and fought for 12 bloody days. On the 18th of Tishrei 5734 (October 18, 1973) Reuven was hit by a heavy bombardment of the area of ​​the bridges. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Binyamina. He left parents, a sister and two brothers. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. On his heroism on the battlefield, Reuven was given a commendation by the Commander of the Command, in which he said: “I wish to commend the late Corporal Galkin Reuven for his courage, his coolness and dedication to the mission. The following is a description of the incident: In the Yom Kippur War, Corporal Reuven Galkin fought with the Paratroopers in the battles for the “Chinese farm.” On October 17, 1973, our forces cut off contact with the enemy. The late Corporal Reuven Galkin remained to cover up the severance of contact. He paralyzed enemy fire sources while he was exposed on the ground, even though he was ordered to take cover. The late Corporal Reuven Galkin understood that if he took cover, he could not use the machine gun effectively against the enemy, and he remained exposed in his place and continued his relentless fight. On October 18, 1973, Corporal Reuven Galkin was injured in the shelling in the area of ​​the bridges.
