Gal, Reuven

Reuven ben Shoshana and Ari Glass, was born on April 23, 1944, in Kibbutz Yagur,When he joined the IDF, Reuven joined the “Nachshol” settlement group and was assigned to the Nahal Brigade. He underwent a course for infantry commanders and a parachuting course. After a while he took a course in medium-machine gun squad commanders and was appointed as a machine gun noncom. He married his wife, Hannah, during his military service. After completing his regular service, he began his research work at the Volcani Institute, which was involved in land work. He and Hannah lived in Holon, where their eldest son, Eran, was born. They still live in Holon and the Six-Day War broke out. Reuven participated in the Jerusalem battles as a machine gunner in a Paratroopers Company. His company fought in the Police Academy and in Augusta Victoria and Reuven was one of the first to arrive at the Wall. It was his first encounter with the war and another encounter with the experience of death. He was very hurt, he hesitated, and as always he kept silent. A small, external clue, to Asher’s mind, can be seen from the fact that he suddenly stopped eating meat, from the war to the day of his death. After the war, Reuven and Hannah decided to move to the moshav and purchased a farm in the village of Liman near Rosh Hanikra. In Kfar Liman the daughter, Hadas, was born. Reuven first worked as a guide in the Society for the Protection of Nature. After a while he went to work alone, and made great efforts, diligently and stubbornly, to develop and advance him. Although his back was hit by a jump in 1972, and the doctors advised him not to do hard work, Reuven continued to work in the banana plantation to work on the tractor – and also to plummet. This was despite the fact that he was given a low medical profile and was told that he would no longer be able to parachute. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Reuven the first to cross the Suez Canal was hit in his head and was killed. On the 16th of Tishrei 5734 (October 16, 1973), Reuven was buried in the cemetery in Yagur, was promoted to Sergeant.
