Gal, Jacob


Son of Leah and Nathan Strauss, was born on September 19, 1951, in Rehovot. He completed eight years of elementary school in Yavne’el in Rehovot and then moved to the Amal school in Rehovot, where he studied in the electricity track. In May 1969, he enlisted in the IDF, and after training, he was sent to a course for paratroopers and a paratroopers course. In August 1971, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal, and when he was discharged from the army he began to work in his profession in a civilian workplace and continued to fulfill his duties to the IDF in the reserves. In May 1975 he volunteered for the career army as a quartermaster. He took a course from the Quartermaster Company and rose to the rank of Major General. He married and built his house on the streets. The opinion of his commanders was: “A responsible, dedicated and loyal soldier, performs his duties to satisfaction, assists and contributes to the level of maintenance in the brigade.” In September 1983, he was promoted to the rank of major sergeant on 26 March 1984. Yaakov was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot, leaving a wife, two brothers, a mother, two brothers and a sister. In a letter of condolence to his wife, the commander of his unit wrote: “His image will remain forever etched in his memory thanks to his comradeship, thanks to the norms of work that go beyond the norm, and thanks to that child of laughter he never left. Yaakov was a devoted, devoted family man, loved by those around him. “His mother wrote:” Yaakov proved in his work and diligence thoroughness, integrity and credibility beyond the norm. His colleagues will remember him for his cooperation and his willingness to help others at all times. “In his memory, a scholarship was dedicated to students at the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot
