Gal (Golgar), Pinchas
Son of Ginda and Isak was born on May 23, 1941 in Odessa, Russia, and immigrated to Israel in 1972. He secretly photographed and printed textbooks in Hebrew and participated in the organization of one of the first Hebrew ulpanim in the Soviet Union (even before the Six-Day War). He helped aliyah activists who immigrated to Israel, and collected money for them. He had close ties with people who were the pillars of Jewish life in Russia and especially in Odessa, such as Nechama Lifshitz, Avigdor Anielewicz (Mordechai Anielewicz’s cousin) and many others. Three times Pinhas asked permission to leave Russia, and each time he was rejected. In 1972 he finally came to Israel with his parents, wife and two-year-old son. Pinchas died of a heart attack on February 14, 1981. He was 39 years old when he fell, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Ashkelon and left behind a wife, three children and two parents.
