Gadish, Moshe

Gadish, Moshe

Son of Yosef and Tirtza. Born on the 4th of Nissan, April 13, 1948 in Yagur. He completed his elementary studies at the Bialik School in Acco, and then continued his high school studies at the ORT school in Jerusalem. Moshe volunteered for submarine service. He was ordained as a diver in June 1967. He completed his studies as an outstanding trainee in his class. In the Six Day War, he served in the “Crocodile”, which operated near the enemy’s coast. According to the commander of the navy, “he excelled in his ability, his composure and his resourcefulness.” He then went to England to join the Dakar submarine crew. When the submarine was on its way to the shores of the country, Between Gibraltar and Haifa, they lost communication, on the 24th of Tevet, January 25, 1968. The Chief Military Rabbinate determined that the date of Moshe’s death, in the course of his duties, was the 29th of Tevet, January 30, 1968. A memorial monument was placed by the people of Dakar, at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, in Jerusalem. On the 13th of Sivan, May 28, 1999, at the end of several years of searching, the Dakar submarine was found on the Mediterranean Sea floor, at a depth of 2,900 meters, on its planned sailing route, and at 250 km from the port of Haifa. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
